　　The main weapon of the 99A main battle tank is a 48 caliber 125mm smoothbore gun, which can fire tail stabilized armor piercing shells and cannon fired missiles. 　　The 99A tank has excellent frontal protection capabilities, using modular composite armor with a physical thickness of over 1 meter, frontal penetration resistance of over 700 millimeters, and damage resistance of over 1000 millimeters. However, side protection is its weakness, as the vehicle's side protection is only 50 millimeters thick steel plate and a rubber skirt, which can be penetrated by a small caliber machine gun.
